    Watch out: the platform proposed varies by service tier, and OT security capabilities and compliance reporting features differ between them.     When a connection to a substation or water treatment facility degrades, the speed of fault resolution depends entirely on who owns the access infrastructure. BT's field engineers deal with BT's own circuits - there's no third-party access provider to coordinate with, which shortens the time between a fault being raised and someone actively diagnosing it. For sites running operational systems rather than office applications, that difference matters more than it might look on paper.

    BT's NIS2-relevant operational presence across critical national infrastructure also makes it a recognised supplier in regulated energy and utilities procurement in the UK.

    Watch out: BT's SD-WAN portfolio runs on multiple underlying platforms, and OT protocol visibility, industrial threat detection and compliance reporting capability are not the same across them.     Grid telemetry and SCADA communications are more sensitive to latency and packet loss than most enterprise traffic, so the cost of a network problem being discovered after it has already affected those systems is significantly higher than the cost of catching it beforehand. Masergy's AIOps capability (inherited by Comcast Business) is built around that, helping to identify degradation patterns before a connection fails, giving operations teams time to reroute or intervene rather than respond.

    The fully managed or co-managed model also suits OT teams whose primary focus is running infrastructure, not managing the network that carries it.

    Watch out: Comcast's operational depth is North American by origin, and outside that region delivery runs through partners. The monitoring consistency, field support response times and AIOps depth that a North American reference site demonstrates may not carry over to European or Middle Eastern assets delivered through those partnerships - worth asking specifically how the service is structured at each international location, not just whether it's available.

    Large energy organisations with generation, transmission and distribution assets across multiple countries face a governance problem as much as a connectivity one: different regions end up with different security policies, different monitoring standards and different compliance postures, often because they were set up at different times by different teams. NTT's 24x7 global operations centres are oriented toward standardising that picture across the whole estate, with a portal that gives central teams visibility regardless of geography.

    For NERC CIP and NIS2 compliance programmes, that centralised audit trail is directly relevant.

    Watch out: NTT doesn't build its own platform. The managed service wraps around Palo Alto, Zscaler and others, so OT security capability and industrial protocol handling depend entirely on which platform sits underneath a given deployment. NTT's overall score reflects managed service quality - the technology fit for SCADA environments is a separate question that needs answering against the specific platform, not NTT's overall score.

    Orange Business has NOC depth and field engineering across Europe and Africa that few managed providers can match at comparable coverage levels. Getting an engineer to a remote generation facility or transmission asset in a secondary market through a partnership model is a qualitatively different proposition.

Colt controls the physical network path across European business districts, which means demonstrating in-region processing to regulators or auditors doesn't depend on mapping data flows through third-party infrastructure with its own jurisdictional questions. Cloud on-ramp connectivity into European cloud regions is also more direct as a result, useful where operational data needs to reach cloud-based monitoring or analytics platforms without leaving the regulatory perimeter.

    Watch out: outside Europe, Colt's depth thins considerably relative to the largest global carriers. A utility with assets in North America, the Middle East or Asia has those sites sitting outside Colt's primary operational strength. Local network coverage, cellular backup and field support at those locations need a separate assessment - for a globally distributed energy estate, the European strengths need to be weighed explicitly against what a different provider would offer elsewhere, not assumed to travel.
