Overview

NTT DATA is a massive, globally-established IT services and network provider, founded in Japan in 1988 as a spinoff of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT), and now operating in more than 70 countries with approximately 190,000 employees. A significant, current corporate event is worth understanding first: on 8 May 2025, NTT, Inc. (renamed that same year from Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation) launched a tender offer to acquire full ownership of NTT DATA Group Corporation, its previously partially-owned, publicly-listed subsidiary; the offer, at JPY 4,000 per share (a confirmed 41.5% premium), achieved 81.75% acceptance, and following shareholder approval on 29 August 2025, NTT DATA Group was formally delisted from the Tokyo Stock Exchange on 26 September 2025, becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTT, Inc. Independent reporting values the transaction at approximately ¥2.37 trillion (around $16.5 billion), and notes this follows a similar pattern to NTT’s 2020 acquisition of its NTT Docomo mobile subsidiary. This is directly relevant context for buyers: NTT DATA is now more tightly integrated into its parent telecommunications group than at any point in its recent public-market history, and buyers should understand this recent transition when assessing organisational structure. On the product side, NTT DATA’s managed network and SASE proposition is built on a broad, multi-vendor partner ecosystem - confirmed directly as spanning more than 40 partners across 60 technologies - rather than a single, deep platform relationship. Two named, specific platform partnerships were confirmed directly in our research: Palo Alto Networks Prisma SASE, delivered via a dedicated ‘Managed Campus Networks with Prisma SASE’ product, and Fortinet Secure SD-WAN, confirmed directly as the underlying platform for a real, extensively-detailed, quantified customer deployment. NTT DATA’s own materials confirm substantial owned infrastructure - SD-WAN presence in more than 190 countries, 125,000 kilometres of undersea cable, and 500,000 square metres of data-centre space - reinforced by NTT Group’s own confirmed annual R&D investment of more than $3 billion. Analyst recognition is extensive and sustained: NTT DATA has been named a Leader in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Managed Network Services for the third consecutive time (2026), is separately named in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Global WAN Services, and holds a Leader position in IDC MarketScape’s Asia/Pacific Managed SD-WAN/SASE Services 2024-2025 Vendor Assessment. Our research located a detailed, quantified, real customer case study: Pick n Pay, a major South African retail chain, deployed Fortinet Secure SD-WAN specifically to maintain store and payment connectivity through South Africa’s well-documented ‘loadshedding’ rolling blackouts, with NTT DATA’s own materials confirming a specific, quantified business outcome - a 1% increase in turnover within the first six months of the solution being active, corroborated consistently across at least two separate NTT DATA publications. Additional named customer references, though less detailed, include Frucor Suntory and CILE (a Belgian water utility, deployed alongside Cisco for IoT/LoRaWAN connectivity specifically). NTT DATA’s own materials directly confirm in-house PCI Qualified Security Assessor capability, and historical corporate records confirm NTT DATA was the first Japanese company to obtain BS 7799 certification (the direct predecessor to ISO 27001) in 2002, though our research did not locate a current, direct, primary confirmation of NTT DATA’s own present-day ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification status specifically for the SD-WAN/SASE service.

Summary

Overall Netify Assessment | NTT DATA's most credible, best-evidenced strength is genuinely specific and multi-dimensional: a real, detailed, quantified customer case study with a rare business-outcome metric (Pick n Pay), genuinely substantial owned physical infrastructure (undersea cable, extensive data-centre space), and extensive, sustained, multi-body independent analyst recognition spanning Gartner and IDC. NTT DATA's genuinely broad, multi-vendor partner ecosystem, anchored by two specifically-confirmed named platform partnerships (Palo Alto Networks Prisma SASE, Fortinet Secure SD-WAN), gives buyers real technical choice within one managed relationship. The profile is honest about real, specific gaps: no current, direct confirmation of ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification was located despite a genuinely distinctive historical compliance milestone, and NTT DATA Group underwent a very recent, significant corporate-structure transition - full delisting and absorption into parent NTT, Inc. as of September 2025 - that buyers should understand directly, even though available evidence suggests this represents consolidation rather than disruption. This profile is solid enough to support initial shortlist guidance for genuinely global, multi-country enterprises specifically, particularly those in retail or other operationally-critical sectors, but the flagged compliance-certification gap and the recent corporate transition should both be discussed directly with NTT DATA before use in a high-stakes, long-term procurement decision. | Whole profile | Medium-High overall | Recommend direct NTT DATA engagement to confirm current compliance-certification status and any operational implications of the September 2025 corporate restructuring before this profile supports a high-stakes, long-term procurement decision.

Summary

Procurement watch-out | NTT DATA Group Corporation was fully delisted from the Tokyo Stock Exchange on 26 September 2025, following a confirmed tender offer by parent company NTT, Inc., becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary | Buyers making long-term commitments should understand this very recent, significant corporate-structure transition directly, though the available evidence suggests consolidation into a larger, more integrated parent group rather than organisational disruption | Most relevant to buyers making long-term commitments who want assurance about organisational continuity during a period of recent, significant corporate restructuring | nttdata.com/global/en/investors/library/earnings; group.ntt/en/ir/library/timely_disclosure/2025/pdf/015.pdf; nttdata.com/global/en/-/media/nttdataglobal/1_files/investors/financial-results/2025/fy2025_fs_1q.pdf; solactive.com/announcements/52487; nttdata.com/global/en/news/press-release/2025/june/062001; corroborated by ainvest.com/news/impact-ntt-data-group-delisting-japan-tech-sector-global-investor-sentiment-2509/ and mobileworldlive.com/asia-pacific/ntt-strikes-16-5b-deal-for-full-control-of-ntt-data/ | High (the underlying delisting and tender-offer transaction are extensively, directly, primary-sourced confirmed across multiple regulatory disclosures and independent corroboration) | A specific, current, worth-flagging consideration - Netify recommends raising this directly with buyers making long-term commitments, while noting the confirmed, well-documented nature of the transaction and its consolidation-oriented rationale (a pattern consistent with NTT's earlier, similar 2020 NTT Docomo transaction).

Buyers making long-term commitments should understand this very recent, significant corporate-structure transition directly, though the available evidence suggests consolidation into a larger, more integrated parent group rather than organisational disruption

Summary

Sector fit | Retail is genuinely the best-evidenced sector in this entire profile, backed by an exceptional, real, named, quantified case study; beverage manufacturing and water utilities are both confirmed via real, named customer references, though with less narrative depth and no quantified outcome metrics. | Table 14 | High for retail; Medium for beverage manufacturing and utilities (real references, less detail) | The confirmed Pick n Pay case study is worth highlighting directly and prominently for any retail or resilience-sensitive buyer; other named sectors should be presented honestly as real but less-detailed references.

Summary

Remote-user-heavy organisation | Conditional fit | Confirmed identity-level, location-independent access architecture (via Prisma SASE) directly supports this use case | None significant identified | Not assessed | Table 3, 5 findings | Real, credible fit at the architectural level; BYOD-specific and clientless-access detail for the NTT DATA-specific implementation is a genuine, specific gap worth closing directly.

Summary

Limitation | This research pass found no current, direct, primary confirmation of NTT DATA's own present-day ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification status specifically for the SD-WAN/SASE service, despite a genuinely distinctive historical milestone (first-in-Japan BS 7799 certification, 2002) | Buyers with formal, platform-level compliance-attestation requirements cannot currently verify current ISO 27001/SOC 2 status from public sources | Affects regulated-industry buyers most specifically | Table 13 findings | Medium-High (confident about the absence found in this specific research pass) | A genuine, specific gap worth flagging directly and early with any buyer requiring current, formal compliance certification - the historical BS 7799 milestone is real but dated, and should not be presented as equivalent to current, service-specific ISO 27001 confirmation.

Buyers with formal, platform-level compliance-attestation requirements cannot currently verify current ISO 27001/SOC 2 status from public sources

Summary

Questions Netify still cannot verify | Whether NTT DATA holds current, direct ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification specifically for the SD-WAN/SASE service; specific, published pricing figures at any tier; named, formal support-tier SLA figures; whether platform selection (Prisma SASE versus Fortinet) affects pricing or capability materially; and what, if any, practical operational changes have resulted from the September 2025 delisting. | Synthesis of Tables 8, 13, 16, 19; pitchbook.com/profiles/company/43084-72; companiesmarketcap.com/ntt-data/revenue/ | N/A - explicitly unresolved | This list should drive the next follow-up (a direct NTT DATA briefing) before this profile is considered fully closed out, particularly the compliance-certification and post-delisting operational-continuity questions given their direct relevance to procurement confidence.

(mandatory) | When a buyer is a genuinely global, multi-country enterprise wanting substantial, owned infrastructure and extensive analyst validation; when a buyer is in retail or another operationally-critical sector wanting a real, quantified resilience reference; or when a buyer wants genuine choice among multiple named, established platform partnerships. | Synthesis of Tables 3, 7, 12, 15 | High | A clear, actionable recommendation trigger set for Netify's comparison tool to apply directly.

A clear, actionable recommendation trigger set for Netify's comparison tool to apply directly.

Summary

Multi-vendor SASE integration | Confirmed to exist at a genuine, structural level - NTT DATA's own positioning directly names both Palo Alto Networks (Prisma SASE) and Fortinet (Secure SD-WAN) as distinct platform partnerships, within a genuinely broad ecosystem of 40-plus partners spanning 60-plus technologies | Existing security tools already in place | Not itemised | Not itemised | Not quantified | N/A | N/A | A specific, worth-stating architectural characteristic - NTT DATA's confirmed multi-partner breadth, spanning at least two distinctly-named platforms plus a genuinely extensive broader partner ecosystem, gives buyers real, substantial choice within one managed relationship, consistent with its identity as a large, diversified systems integrator.

Summary

Scope & Boundaries | A genuinely detailed, quantified, real customer case study (Pick n Pay) with a specific, rare business-outcome metric (1% turnover increase), reinforced by additional named customer references (Frucor Suntory, CILE) spanning different sectors and use cases. | NTT DATA's own corporate structure recently underwent a major, current transition - full delisting and absorption into parent NTT, Inc. as of September 2025 - which buyers should understand directly when assessing organisational continuity, even though this appears to be a consolidation rather than a disruption.

Summary

Compliance & Footprint | Genuinely substantial, confirmed global infrastructure scale (190-plus-country SD-WAN presence, undersea cable ownership, extensive data-centre space) gives real, structural confidence in long-term operational capacity. | This research pass found no current, direct, primary confirmation of ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification specifically for the SD-WAN/SASE service - buyers with formal compliance-attestation requirements should confirm this directly.

Summary

Biggest operational concern | The combination of unconfirmed current ISO 27001/SOC 2 certification and the very recent, significant corporate-structure transition (delisting, full absorption into NTT, Inc.) together represent the two most concrete, actionable considerations a buyer should resolve directly before committing, particularly for compliance-sensitive or long-term contracts. | Tables 1, 13, 19 | Medium-High | Netify should proactively flag both specific, evidenced considerations to buyers during the shortlist conversation rather than let either surface as a surprise later.

Netify should proactively flag both specific, evidenced considerations to buyers during the shortlist conversation rather than let either surface as a surprise later.

Summary

Mid-market | Conditional fit | Not extensively evidenced with a matching case study, though NTT DATA's own confirmed, genuinely broad partner ecosystem (40-plus partners, 60-plus technologies) suggests real flexibility across different organisational scales | Benefits from, but doesn't strictly require, extensive internal networking expertise given the confirmed managed model | Not itemised | Table 2, 12 findings | A reasonable, though not extensively evidenced, fit for this buyer profile based on the confirmed broad partner ecosystem.

Summary

Global branch rollout | Genuinely well-evidenced via a real, detailed, quantified customer example (Pick n Pay) spanning distributed retail stores and offices, reinforced by NTT DATA's own confirmed, substantial global network scale (190-plus-country SD-WAN presence) | Existing branch network/WAN infrastructure to integrate or replace | NTT DATA-managed, per the confirmed managed-service default | NTT DATA-managed, with confirmed genuinely global network reach | Not quantified with a specific overall rollout timeline | Confirmed real-world risk factor directly addressed: power/connectivity instability (South African rolling blackouts) | The confirmed adaptive, resilience-focused SD-WAN architecture directly addresses this exact risk category | Genuinely well-evidenced via a real, detailed, quantified customer example that specifically demonstrates resilience against a genuine, well-documented real-world infrastructure risk factor.

Summary

VPN to ZTNA migration | Evidenced via the confirmed identity-level, location-independent access architecture, delivered via the confirmed Prisma SASE partnership | Existing VPN infrastructure potentially retired | IT team | NTT DATA-managed, delivered on Palo Alto Networks' platform | Not quantified | Not itemised | Not detailed | The underlying ZTNA capability is confirmed and specific via a direct architectural description; a named customer case study specifically for VPN retirement wasn't found in this pass.

Summary

Global fit | Genuinely well-evidenced global reach - a specific, quantified figure (SD-WAN in 190-plus countries, direct operations in 70-plus countries), reinforced directly by real, named, multi-region customer deployments (South Africa, Belgium) and a separately-confirmed, dedicated Asia/Pacific analyst Leader recognition. | Table 7, 15 findings; services.global.ntt/en-us/newsroom/ntt-data-named-a-leader-in-the-2026-gartner-magic-quadrant-for-mns; thecconnects.com/navigating-the-shift-to-agentic-aiops-and-sase-the-top-15-managed-sd-wan-and-network-transformation-providers/ | High | Present the global-reach evidence with genuine confidence, backed by both a specific, quantified figure and real, independent, multi-region customer corroboration.

Present the global-reach evidence with genuine confidence, backed by both a specific, quantified figure and real, independent, multi-region customer corroboration.

Summary

Deployment & Ops | A confirmed 'network lifecycle approach, from consulting and design to implementation and management', reinforced by real, detailed, quantified customer deployment evidence (Pick n Pay) demonstrating genuine problem-solving depth for a specific, real-world infrastructure challenge. | Because NTT DATA's SD-WAN/SASE capability spans a genuinely broad partner ecosystem (40-plus partners, 60-plus technologies, with at least two distinct named platforms confirmed - Palo Alto Prisma SASE and Fortinet), buyers should confirm exactly which specific platform is being proposed for their deployment.

Summary

Limitation | NTT DATA's SD-WAN/SASE capability spans at least two distinct, named technology partnerships (Palo Alto Networks Prisma SASE, Fortinet Secure SD-WAN) within a genuinely broad, 40-plus-partner ecosystem, rather than a single, unified platform | Buyers should confirm exactly which specific platform is being proposed for their deployment, rather than assuming uniform capability across NTT DATA's entire portfolio | Affects buyers doing detailed, platform-level technical evaluation most specifically | Table 3, 12 findings | High (the multi-platform architecture itself is directly confirmed) | A specific, worth-flagging characteristic - genuinely a strength for choice, but a real, worth-confirming detail for buyers wanting platform-specific technical certainty.

Buyers should confirm exactly which specific platform is being proposed for their deployment, rather than assuming uniform capability across NTT DATA's entire portfolio

Summary

Firewall consolidation | Evidenced via the confirmed Managed Network Security product line and the confirmed underlying platform partnerships (Prisma SASE, Fortinet) | Existing firewall infrastructure potentially retired | IT/security team | NTT DATA-managed, on the customer's selected platform | Not quantified with a specific timeline | Not itemised | Not detailed | The underlying capability is confirmed at a general level via the named Managed Network Security product line and confirmed platform partnerships; a named customer case study specifically about firewall consolidation wasn't found in this pass.

Summary

Global multinational | Strong fit, extensively evidenced | Confirmed genuinely global reach (190-plus-country SD-WAN presence, 70-plus-country direct operations), reinforced by real, named customer deployments spanning South Africa, Belgium, and (implied) other regions | Needs Netify/buyer to verify specific-country coverage directly for markets outside the confirmed customer-deployment regions | Custom enterprise pricing | Table 7, 14 findings | Genuinely well-evidenced multinational capability, reinforced by both a specific, quantified reach claim and real, named, multi-region customer deployments.

Summary

Most credible differentiator | A genuinely detailed, quantified customer case study with a rare business-outcome metric (Pick n Pay, +1% turnover in six months), combined with genuinely substantial, owned physical infrastructure (undersea cable, extensive data-centre space) and extensive, sustained, multi-body analyst recognition. | Tables 7, 18, 19 | High | This is the single sentence Netify's comparison engine could most confidently quote for this vendor specifically.

This is the single sentence Netify's comparison engine could most confidently quote for this vendor specifically.

Summary

Regulated organisation | Conditional fit | A genuinely distinctive historical compliance milestone (first-in-Japan BS 7799 certification, 2002) and confirmed in-house PCI QSA capability exist; current, direct ISO 27001/SOC 2 certification confirmation was not independently located | Buyer must independently verify current, service-specific compliance status directly with NTT DATA | Not assessed | Table 13 findings | A genuinely distinctive historical compliance signal and real, confirmed PCI expertise exist, tempered by the specific, worth-flagging absence of current, direct ISO 27001/SOC 2 confirmation.

Summary

Highly distributed branch estate | Strong fit, evidenced | The confirmed Pick n Pay deployment directly demonstrates feasibility across a distributed, multi-site retail estate ('stores as well as their offices') | Low, given the confirmed managed model and real, successful deployment | Not itemised | Table 4, 6, 14 findings | Real, confirmed capability via a real, detailed, multi-site customer deployment directly confirming this exact scenario.

Summary

Commercial reality | No pricing exists for this platform in any source found in this research pass; the confirmed multi-product structure (Managed Campus Network, SD-WAN, Managed Internet Connectivity, Managed Network Security, Managed IoT/NaaS) gives buyers real, useful commercial framing even without published figures. | Table 16 | Medium (confident about the absence of published pricing, and about the confirmed multi-product structure) | Route any budget conversation to a direct NTT DATA quote from the very first interaction, using the confirmed multi-product structure to scope the conversation precisely.

Route any budget conversation to a direct NTT DATA quote from the very first interaction, using the confirmed multi-product structure to scope the conversation precisely.

Summary

Security & Analytics | A confirmed, named Palo Alto Networks Prisma SASE partnership for campus-network security, reinforced by confirmed in-house PCI Qualified Security Assessor capability and a genuinely distinctive historical compliance milestone (first Japanese company to obtain BS 7799 certification, in 2002). | This research pass found no current, direct, primary confirmation of NTT DATA's own present-day ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification status specifically for the SD-WAN/SASE service, despite the confirmed historical BS 7799 milestone and confirmed PCI QSA capability.

Summary

SSE deployment to remote users | Not evidenced with specific detail in sources reviewed, consistent with the broader Table 5 finding that remote-user/client-side evidence is thinner than the site-to-site/branch side of the platform | Not itemised | Not itemised | Not itemised | Not quantified | Not itemised | Not detailed | A genuine, specific evidence gap for this exact scenario, consistent with the pattern found throughout Table 5.

Summary

Biggest operational advantage | A real, detailed, quantified customer deployment directly demonstrates NTT DATA's capability to maintain critical connectivity and business operations under genuinely adverse, real-world infrastructure conditions - real, checkable evidence of resilience engineering, not just a theoretical capability claim. | Table 4, 17, 18 | High | Directly quotable with the specific, named, quantified case-study detail for credibility.

Directly quotable with the specific, named, quantified case-study detail for credibility.

Summary

Co-managed transition | Not confirmed as a distinct, formally-named co-managed service tier in sources reviewed | Existing tools/processes reviewed against NTT DATA's specific delivery model | Customer chooses desired level of involvement | NTT DATA-managed, per the confirmed managed-service default | Not quantified | N/A | N/A | Evidence gap - a formally-named, distinct co-managed tier wasn't independently itemised in this pass, though NTT DATA's own confirmed status as a systems integrator with a genuinely broad partner ecosystem may support flexible arrangements in practise.

Summary

Deployment reality | Genuinely one of the best-evidenced findings in this entire profile - a real, detailed, large-scale (multiple stores and offices) customer deployment directly confirms feasibility, reinforced by a rare, specific, quantified business-outcome metric. | Tables 4, 6, 9, 17, 18 | High | Present the deployment evidence with genuine confidence - it is specific, quantified, and directly demonstrates value delivered under genuinely challenging real-world conditions.

Summary

When would Netify recommend looking elsewhere? (mandatory) | When a buyer needs current, direct confirmation of ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification specifically; when a buyer wants a single, unified SASE platform rather than choice among named alternatives; or when a buyer requires maximum organisational-structure stability without any recent corporate transition to understand. | Synthesis of Tables 3, 13, 19 | Medium-High | Each trigger is tied to a specific, evidenced gap or structural characteristic rather than a generic 'consider alternatives' hedge.

Each trigger is tied to a specific, evidenced gap or structural characteristic rather than a generic 'consider alternatives' hedge.

Summary

Large enterprise | Strong fit, extensively evidenced | A real, detailed, quantified customer case study (Pick n Pay) directly confirms applicability for this buyer type, reinforced by extensive, sustained analyst recognition and NTT DATA's own substantial global scale | Requires coordination between internal IT and NTT DATA-managed delivery, though substantially reduced by the confirmed managed-service model | Custom enterprise pricing, quote-based | Table 14 findings | Genuinely the best-evidenced buyer profile in this entire profile - a real, detailed, quantified, business-outcome case study directly confirms fit for exactly this buyer type.
